FAQ

Community Solar is a local energy option that makes solar power available to renters and homeowners with no up-front costs or expensive solar panels. Our local community solar farms in Hamilton, NJ, generate power from the sun and feed it into the PSE&G utility grids.

Community Solar is part of New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program, which is administered by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU). Modern Renewables is one of the Community Solar projects approved by the NJ BPU, which requires that we offer our customers 21% savings on their solar credits. Learn More

It’s simple. Your PSE&G electric account will be linked to Modern Renewables. They’ll allocate a share of our solar energy to match your electricity usage. This generates solar credits on your utility bill, reducing the amount of electricity you are billed for. You’ll receive a discount on the value of those credits by up to 21%.

Nope! Renters and homeowners alike have access to savings with our solar energy; and remember—there will be no disruption to your PSE&G electricity service and no solar panels needed at your residence.

No solar panels are needed at your residence. Provide your PSE&G electric account number and we’ll take care of the rest.

No, it’s free to enroll and you can cancel with 30 days notice for any reason without fees, as required by the BPU.

You’ll save up to 21% on the solar credits applied to your monthly electricity bill.

Nothing. PSE&G remains your electricity provider. The only change you’ll notice is a lower PSE&G electric bill every month.

Yes, you’ll see a credit for renewable energy allocated to your account and your guaranteed discount applied directly to your PSE&G bill.

Each month, customers will see their discounted solar credits applied directly to their PSE&G electricity bill. This means Modern Renewables customers receive only one consolidated bill from their utility that shows their dollar savings and up to 21% discount.

Your existing utility account number can be found on your utility bill or by signing into your utility account online.

No, we are a community solar developer, which is not the same as a third-party retail energy supplier. Instead, Modern Renewables provides solar electricity to PSE&G and you get a credit for the value of the solar electricity allocated to your utility account.

Community solar is part of the BPU’s program to incentive solar developers to build renewable energy projects in New Jersey and pass the savings on to you!

There is none. PSE&G will continue to be your electric company. You get a discount because our solar power is going into their utility grid. Sign up is easy—it’s free and takes minutes. It’s a win-win for all!
